MNML (Thesis)
MNML is a new take on minimalism in both design & lifestyle, focusing on the concept of purposeful nothingness. The goal is to frame minimalism as a path to enlightenment. Minimalism isn’t just a design style. It isn’t simply buying a book on decluttering the home. It’s about rescuing the truly essential in life and applying this to design.
Early research and concept development began in early Fall 2020, and the project is coming to a close. The educational component and showcasing MNML in society are in development.

The main deliverable for the thesis is a 64 page brand manual to the new minimalist style. The brand manual includes both important messaging and influential thinking on the topic, along with a style guide instructing users how to design for a MNML utopia.
Utilizing only black and white text and imagery, a4 sizing that requires one trim, and easily defined grids, the design is simple and clear, but restricted.
Accompanying this is the process book that goes through my journey from concept ideation to final production tweaks.
The process book was designed utilizing the MNML guidelines and showcases visual research, brainstorming from my notebooks, and includes a synopsis of my thesis topic.
Both the MNML desktop and mobile websites feature clean layouts with iconography guiding the user. Black and white layouts and smooth animations guide the user.
