	Both coffee and keyboards can be obsessive. While they are primarily functional items, each are elevated by aesthetic. One can obsess on the details - the subtle flavor variations and notes in coffee, the slow drip of a pour over, the profile of a key, the varying sounds of mechanical switches.
These types of functional obsessions are what drives me; both in life and design.&#38;nbsp; Finding that tiny detail in a vast field and shining a spotlight on it is where I find enjoyment in my designs. My design curiosity stems from a constant desire to grow. I see design as a rough and complex process, with a final product that’s always evolving.
I’m Noah.
A designer currently in Southern California working at IBM. If you think we’d be a good fit, hit me up and let’s talk.

		<description>
	Feeling the SurfaceFeeling the Surface: The Body, Touch, and the Surface focuses on the concept of human interaction with space and object. When designing, the human connection to product, as it relates to subconscious and conscious touch, is often overlooked. With new technology, increasingly busy lives, and less attention paid to quality work and well designed surroundings, this exhibition catalogue shows how humans could interact and think about space, object, and surface. With this idea, the design takes fragments of important works from designers, focusing on materiality, and piecing them together to form a cohesive feeling.

	The introduction to the book begins with microscopic views of different surfaces. Following this, the visual language of scribbled lines is introduced. These were created through a failed experiment 3D mapping the typography.

	The catalogue is designed using one typeface, in one size. Visual hierarchy is created using only weight, color, and layout. The pages are designed on a simple 16-grid field. The grid is broken as images are divided up between multiple grid areas. This creates a feeling of both division and unity at once.

The interior essay and writing pages are defined through a change in paper color and material. This allows for minimal change in typographic style and layout, while still providing a clear indication of content shift.

The finishing pages showcase the typographic mapping visual system one final time, review exhibition history for the artists &#38;amp; designers, and end with final microscopic images of surface.

	Once again utilizing the 3D mapping visual system, the posters offer clear information for easy content understanding and retention.

	The posters work both as a series and as individual pieces. When placed all together, the lines match up to create one flowing piece.

	EPM Dashboard Catalog
The EPM Dashboard Catalog is a tool designed both for and with end users of EPM. EPM is IBM’s trusted source of integrated enterprise data. The platform offers dashboards and reports full of data to meet the needs of IBMers. However, finding the dashboards you need to use can be a tough task for new and even existing users. Also, it takes a lot of time and skill to build a dashboard. Many people can’t do this or don’t have the time. They would rather use an existing one.
The EPM Design Team set out with a goal of creating a simple, scalable, intentionally designed solution. The EPM Dashboard Catalog allows users to both find and submit dashboards. With this tool, the EPM onboarding process and journey is simplified even further, giving back time to the users...the overall goal of EPM as a whole.

	The EPM Dashboard Catalog was designed to be simplistic with the end user journey in mind. When a new user gets access to EPM, they might not know where to go or where to find a dashboard for their work. Instead of having to go through exstensive training or ask around, they can visit the dashboard catalog.

	The first time a user opens the catalog, a welcome window will help them get set up and they can make selections to customize their experience. This information also provides the design team with metrics on who is using the platform and how they heard about EPM.

The new EPM user has set up their profile and now it’s time to find a dashboard. The dashboard catalog has two key ways to help users: Search and Filtering. Cascading menus to the left of the dashboard list allow the user to filter by multiple categories. When a user selects one, the list automatically updates. Pills with different colors help users recognize different Business Units on the cards as they search and filter for what they need.

Users can also simply search for keywords or even whole dashboard names using the search bar at the top. Having two key ways to find dashboards keeps this process simple and is less overwhelming to new users. We designed the catalog to automatically sort by EPM Recommended at first so new users know what’s popular. However, users can change the sorting style if they want as well.

	When a user finds a dashboard they need, they’ll select “View Details” and a slide in window will appear. Users can view the dashboard name, description, and other details they might need. Just below the dashboard name, users can also choose to “Add to Favorites” to save this dashboard for easy access in the future.

	Another tab in the “View Details” slide in window has extra resources for users. The content on dashboards changes frequently, sometimes even daily. Having an easy way to contact the dashboard owner or report an issue is key to keep content current and accessible.

	After multiple rounds of stakeholder interviews, design reviews, and design sprints, we had a prototype for user testing. Alongside the design research lead, we tested multiple user flows with dozens of EPM users.&#38;nbsp;

	I was in charge of creating the working prototype for user testing, linking multiple screens, buttons, and options. The goal of the prototype was to allow users to make mistakes or click something that wasn’t intended. Instead of having unclickable options, users could choose anything so we could see their entire thought process and revise designs.

		<description>
	Escape From TarkovEscape From Tarkov is a hardcore, first-person shooter style game currently in beta phase. Possibly the most difficult and punishing in the genre, the gameplay is completely unforgiving. Tarkov features beautiful, immersive landscapes and maps that contrast with the tough, intimidating gameplay.Taking this contrasting idea and applying it to a visual system, the game and surrounding graphics evolve to&#38;nbsp;become one.&#38;nbsp; Using heavy texture overlay, progressive wear, and blur treatments,&#38;nbsp;along with&#38;nbsp;Russian graphic styles, the new visuals of Tarkov stand out from others in the genre.

	The final logo above utilizes a progressive wear and tear style. Over time in the game and through brand imagery, the logo can fade, decay, etc.The below logos are iterations and concepts before the final stage. Testing out all the logos in environment and scenery helped influence future visual styles.

	This animation shows the wear and decay states it can go through. This shows up in imagery and UI elements within the game.

	This first key art + poster campaign concept focuses on the two factions within Tarkov. Showcasing the different characteristics of each, players can begin to connect with characters and options before even entering the game.

	Both series of posters utilize multiple layers of texture and wear on both the logo mark and the imagery. The intimidating poses combined with the image treatment starts to provide a feeling for the player experience.

	&#60;img width="4000" height="5000" width_o="4000" height_o="5000" data-src="https://freight.cargo.site/t/original/i/c63418081c32db9b726982f9e59c1c0c52389ded54cd7f947f6bab2269d13100/tarkov_prop_mock2.jpg" data-mid="145320892" border="0"  src="https://freight.cargo.site/w/1000/i/c63418081c32db9b726982f9e59c1c0c52389ded54cd7f947f6bab2269d13100/tarkov_prop_mock2.jpg" /&#62;
	&#60;img width="4000" height="5000" width_o="4000" height_o="5000" data-src="https://freight.cargo.site/t/original/i/ce34570c1ba0e6a5c0e718da37385ef9f09262fc22e3caba84d5d0d72027e97d/tarkov_prop_mock1.jpg" data-mid="145320893" border="0"  src="https://freight.cargo.site/w/1000/i/ce34570c1ba0e6a5c0e718da37385ef9f09262fc22e3caba84d5d0d72027e97d/tarkov_prop_mock1.jpg" /&#62;

The second key art concept and poster campaign focuses on the landscapes of Tarkov. The goal was to position this series as welcoming, inviting, almost propaganda-like posters.&#38;nbsp;

The landscapes of Tarkov feature beautiful scenery which contrasts pretty harshly to the intense gameplay and action. With this, some players might be drawn to the “Enjoy the beautiful views of Tarkov” series.

	The UI design for the Tarkov Launcher / Client was inspired from the progression found in the logo.&#38;nbsp;Keeping the overall style rather simple for visual clarity, the user is guided through the journey with visual clues such as hover states and welcome messaging.

	 After launching, the loading screen features a decaying logo and unclear backgrounds.&#38;nbsp; As the background comes into focus, the logo is removed.&#38;nbsp;

It all started with a quote: “Love is a striking example of how little reality means to us.” This quote from Marcel Proust made me question how we escape from reality with what we love. Naturally, my mind went to music. And then it went a bit further to AI. Thinking about what I love, through something I can’t believe is real.

	After selecting and slightly modifying a brutalist sans serif typeface, I started playing with it. I loaded thousands of images of color, pattern, texture, cells, and more into an AI GAN generator to start rendering some new visuals. Extracting key pieces from some of my favorites, I began messing with the type.

	Then I started playing with the form in a static form. Working with the images I generated and combining them with light sources. How would the color and texture interact with lights from a projector? What about headlights?

	After working with the still imagery for a while, I started to add motion. How can the music interact with the visuals? I started to play with not just the color and transition between the images, but the lighting and pacing as well.&#38;nbsp;

	The first visual tackled was the logo. It needed to be bigger and bolder than all the other conventions around the country.&#38;nbsp;And since Comic and Con didn’t have the same length, the leftover space perfectly fits different venues and events within the Comic Con brand.

	This wild typeface was also developed specifically for Comic Con. It’s called Comic Box because, well, all the letters were made by trying to fit them into a box. The modular logo can be any scale. Small in the corner of collectable posters or HUGE on the side of a building.

The collectible posters were developed so people could purchase one or the entire series. The logo lockup is kept small in the corner so it doesn’t interfere with the artwork.

Every year, the imagery for Comic Con both inside and outside the convention will focus on old captures of comic books along with new media from the year.&#38;nbsp;

	The mobile app is geared towards convention-goers. Walking around a giant building all day, trying to see everything you can, it’s hard to catch all the little details. Making everything, every button, and every bit of type huge on the app means less looking at a phone and more looking up.

	In the app, users will find all the events they need, a dedicated merch tab where they can then pick up or ship their items, and an easy-share option to let everyone know what’s going on at the convention.

	Del Marcos Hotel

Del Marcos is a hotel in Palm Springs California designed by William F. Cody, a well known architect that designed in the mid century modern style. However, the hotel hasn’t been maintained, and the initial charm has worn off.

The new brand focuses on bright colors and an abstracted circle mark resembling the sun over a desert. The color palette, rules, and typography bring a fresh feeling, but still pay homage to the initial hotel brand and style.

	As an interesting experiment, the first designs I finalized were the postcards. Before I had the finished logo, imagery, anything. I decided the postcard style would frame the brand. Through this I decided to focus on bold typography, layered imagery, and geometric patterns. With these, the brand starts to come together.

The colors and pattern are indicative of the Palm Springs area. Colors directly sampled from the desert, patterns that echo back to the mid-centrury modern flare of the city, and geometric textures mimicing water in pools.

	Brand extensions focus on the interaction between the circular mark and tracked out type. Playful layouts, creative copy to keep the guests smiling, and subtle designs make up the brand. Matchboxes, totes, and coasters have subtle designs that guests will want to bring home.

	Along with the traditional components of a brand, I wanted to visualize the space in a new way. Room and space renovations to match the new style and feel will go with the rebrand. Furniture and finishings will pay homage to the mid century feel of Palm Springs while also bringing in the desert.

	As a final set of deliverables, I designed a Spa line for the hotel. Del Marcos hotel features a well established restaurant and has the perfect location/setup for a spa. Adding this in will make the hotel feel like a real resort escape.&#38;nbsp;

	Amber glass and a switch to white typography defines the spa brand. The mark, style, and playfulness of the hotel find ways into the packaging, but still convey all essential information about the product... in a subdued, natural feel. Just like a spa should be.
